Here is an easy cure for cracked heels, fungal infections and calluses.

Soaking your feet in Listerine mouth wash sounds crazy but there are plenty of people that claim this works. This life hack will have you wondering why you have not tried it before.

There are loads of creams and ointments on the market that claim to heal cracked heels and fungal infections but they can be extremely expensive.

This homemade remedy is easy and cheap, and definitely worth trying out if you have cracked heels and fungal infected nails. The worse that can happen is you will end up with clean and minty flavoured feet!

It’s definitely best to use Listerine “Healthy White” because the Blue version may stain your feet.

This is a very simple DIY remedy, and these 2 simple ingredients can achieve smooth and soft heels that you desire.

THIS VIDEO WILL RUN YOU THROUGH THE METHOD

2-3 tablespoons of honey. Both honey and vinegar increase the antiseptic benefits of Listerine and can help soothe sensitive skin.

You may already have these 3 products in your home anyway.

I used this method for my cracked heels

So Does Listerine really make cracked heels better?

Well I am an avid dog walker. In the winter months my heels always crack and become sore. After trying it did make a difference. I’m not saying it was a wonder cure but it definitely made a difference. My heels looked smoother and there was an improvement in the rough texture of the skin I had before. However the whole process required a great amount of scrubbing.

How to use Listerine foot wash

Mix this ratio. 1 part mouthwash, 1 part vinegar and 2 parts of warm water together in a bowl big enough to put your feet in and submerge.

How long do you Soak!

Let your feet soak for a good 20 minutes in the Listerine foot bath mixture. Then, use a good sponge, foot file or pumice stone to gently slough off all of the dead and soft skin. When I soaked my feet, I was able to pull off quite a good amount of dry skin. Whilst I did not get it all off, I only needed a few more good soaks and my feet would have improved even more!

You know the Listerine “Healthy White” and Vinegar are working together, when you see the bubbles!

If you desire, you can follow up with a foot or body scrub to get even better results. Just lotion up and check out the results.

If you’re wondering if this home remedy can treat fungal foot infections as well then you may be in for a pleasant surprise

The essential oils in Listerine have natural antifungals properties, so may treat minor to moderate cases of toenail fungus, infections and athlete's foot. There is no harm in giving Listerine a try, but if the symptoms persist and do not go away, it is better to consult a doctor.

Does Listerine Mouthwash Really Help In Eliminating and Exfoliating Dry Skin

Your skin is one of the body’s most important organ with three functions – regulation, protection and sensation. The skin helps with the regulation of the body temperature, protects it from mechanical pressures and impacts, temperature variations and chemicals, and helps a person to feel pain when they’re injured (due to the network of nerve cells for pain, touch, cold and heat).

Your skin naturally sheds the external layer, but every once in a while, the skin won’t fall off. When it happens to your feet, the skin dries out and cracks.

The driest skin occurs where there’s a plethora of friction due to walking and wearing shoes, often leading to the development of calluses. Calluses make it difficult to comfortably wear shoes, as the shoe rub against the calluses and dry skin.

However, there is hope to ridding dry skin quickly and effectively. It’s called salicylic acid – a chemical exfoliant that’s in many anti-aging and acne treatments. By using products with salicylic acid in them, the dry skin falls off faster, decreasing the build-up of dry skin and heading off potential unsightly blemishes such as blackheads, pimples and calluses.

Should You Use Listerine To Help With Your Dry Skin?

Methyl salicylate is a chemical compound and exfoliating properties similar to salicylic acid. Methyl salicylate is found in the well-known mouthwash brand Listerine.

It’s important to understand that no scientific information is available for Listerine as an exfoliant. However, based on user information from various online sources, it appears that Listerine is useful and doesn’t have many side effects associated with it.

If you constantly suffer from rough, dry skin on your feet, you may want to consider a Listerine foot soak, as the alternative to the following:

  • Pumice stone
  • Moisturizers
  • Exfoliants

Again, no research has been done to determine if it’s safe or unsafe for a foot scrub, but there’s been no data to suggest it’s harmful to your health (or your skin, for that matter). If you can safely use Listerine in your mouth (no kinds of reactions), then it’s safe to say that you can use it on your feet.

What Are Some Benefits Of Listerine Use?

There are a plethora of benefits associated with Listerine for a foot scrub or soak. However, the biggest benefit is the prevention of infections. This means you can place your feet in a tub of Listerine and potentially stop the development of

- Fungal toenail infections
- Athlete’s foot
- Other feet infections

Is Listerine Suitable For Everybody?

Not everybody should use Listerine as a way to clear up dry skin and prevent skin infections.

  • Anybody with open sources such as cuts, blisters or dry, cracked skin
  • People who have suffered allergic reactions to Listerine’s ingredients such as menthol, methyl salicylate, thymol and eucalyptus
  • People who have previously soaked their feet and suffered an allergic reactions

    Young children

Special Note: People often experience a burning sensation when gurgling Listerine. This burning sensation can occur anywhere on the body – not just in the mouth.
